Protective glasses provide instant protection to sore eyes
15 year old Bubake lives in Kaziba, an eastern district in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Both of Bubake’s parents had leprosy, and in 2001 he, too, was diagnosed. Bubake reacted badly to multi-drug therapy and developed eye problems. As a result, bright light became very painful to his eyes.
Bubake says, “My eyes itch sometimes. It is very painful when I don’t wear glasses and they weep.” Bubake was only comfortable inside his dark mud hut, until the local Leprosy Mission gave him a pair of protective glasses to help regain his sight outdoors.
Today, Bubake likes school, and wants to be a doctor. The Leprosy Mission has given him a chance to fulfil his dreams with a scholarship. He works hard learning to read, and breeds guinea pigs in his spare time to raise money for his school books.
A basic pair of protective glasses for someone like Bubake can mean the difference between a life of solitude indoors, and fulfilling hopes to become a doctor. Please support the Gift of Sight Appeal and make a donation today.
