Research Scholarship
Updated 11th January 2012
Marion Cochrane visited the Leprosy Mission office in December 2011 highlighting her father in law's Scholarship which is available for research and training in the field of leprosy. Marion was in New Zealand from England catching up with her good friend Dr Phyllis Charlton, an ex Board Member and Leprosy Mission missionary doctor.
The Robert Cochrane scholarship is available to honour the life-long commitment Robert had as a leprologist for people affected by leprosy.
The scholarship will help fund up to three travel fellowships per year to a maximum value of £1000 each and is administered through the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene in London. Applicants from around the world are welcome and there is no restriction on the country of destination for research or training provided the criteria below is met.
The fund will support travel for:
- Leprosy workers who need to obtain practical training in field work or in research
- Experienced leprologists to provide practical training in a developing country
- Those working on Mycobacterium tuberculosis in any research context (basic science, clinical epidemiology, public health)
- Those researching any other mycobacterial disease including Buruli ulcer (Mycobacterium ulcerans)
