Your gift of sight provides an eye operation for a person affected by leprosy induced blindness. This can be a particularly debilitating result of leprosy, especially when it is combined with not being able to feel your way around with your hands and feet. This gift will restore the sense of sight - and with it a sense of independence and dignity.

 

Restoring dignity

 

Dr Daniel Chen, a Leprosy Mission partner and eye surgeon in China, recently visited New Zealand and spoke of how his work is restoring so much more than vision - a person's dignity. He treated one man who had become blind, and who had no idea he was living in dirty, unhygienic conditions because he could not see. The man is able to take care of himself again, and is looking forward to a healthy future.
