Thursday 1 September
Today members of the Marketing Committee will be meeting to discuss fundraising strategies. Pray that members will be able to juggle work, family and committee commitments and that they will know God's leading in all areas of their lives.
Friday 2 September
Pray especially today for safety for the Bougainville Healthy Communities District Facilitators in the Wakunai Area. This area still has strong traditional practices and there are security threats in the remote villages. Pray all staff will know God's protection. 'that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men; for not everyone has faith. But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.' 2 Thessalonians 3v2 & 3
Saturday 3 / Sunday 4 September
Pray for fruitful meetings between HANDA and Habitat for Humanity in China as they discuss the possibility of the rebuilding of houses for a leprosy affected village in Yunnan. Praise God for the great work that Habitat for Humanity carries out. Pray for the health and welfare of the individuals and families with leprosy in this village.
Monday 5 September
Pray for Brent Morgan (Executive Director) and Gillian Whitley (Donor Development Manager) as they meet and engage with supporters in the central North Island during this week. The meetings aim to provide updates on projects and opportunities for awareness raising activities in supporter's local areas.
Tuesday 6 September
Pray for wisdom for Dr Julie Lincoln in her new role in Pokhara, Nepal, as Medical Officer / Community Health Advisor. Pray also for comfort for Julie's dad and family back in New Zealand as they support Julie's step-mum who is very fragile and weak after extensive cancer surgery. May Julie be also comforted that her family's lives are in the Lord's care.
Wednesday 7 September
Remember today Dr David Friend at the Mukinge Hospital in NW Zambia. Pray for strength and endurance for David as he handles day to day emergencies and works unceasingly in the hospital as well as taking care of the needs for leprosy-affected people in the Kikonkomene Village. Pray that a replacement doctor will be found so that David is able to take a break from time to time. Praise God for Dr Snider from Canada who has helped periodically in the past but as he is now 74 is unable to continue.
Thursday 8 September
International Literacy Day. Today one in five adults are still not literate and of these two thirds are women. Pray that TLM Adult Literacy Centres, Vocational Training Centres and Catch them Young Schemes throughout the world will continue to open up possibilities and opportunities and give back the social standing to people that leprosy may have stolen. Pray too that the students will learn not only skills but will start a relationship with Jesus.
Friday 9 September
Full time work and study can have adverse effects on family life. Pray for Martin Malkaney (Finance Manager) and Gillian Whitley (Donor Development Manager) as they take papers to further their degrees for the benefit of the Leprosy Mission.
Saturday 10 / Sunday 11 September
Remember Lisa McLaren Leprosy Mission New Zealand's Marketing Manager as time for her baby's arrival draws near. Pray that all will go well and for blessings for Lisa and Marcus. 'You will keep in perfect peace him / her whose mind is steadfast, because he / she trusts in you.' Isaiah 26v3
Monday 12 September
Pray for Brent Morgan (Executive Director) as he works on budgets and planning processes for 2012. Pray that all budgets set in faith will be met so that no projects will have to go unfunded. 2012 is Leprosy Mission New Zealand's 100th year anniversary - pray for wisdom for Brent as together with the Board plans are made for our centenary.
Tuesday 13 September
HANDA has organised awareness raising activities to take place in three universities in China (in Guangdong, Guangxi and Yunnan). Pray that these events to educate the general public will break down the stigma against leprosy. Pray for wisdom for future direction for Dr Michael Chen and staff.
Wednesday 14 September
Country Learning is a time to reflect, change and increase understanding, which in turn leads to improved practices. Pray for all the participants in Democratic Republic of Congo's Annual Country Learning. Pray for God's wisdom in planning for future needs and for good teamwork.
Thursday 15 September
Today Gillian Whitley (Donor Development Manager) will be making a presentation of the work of the Leprosy Mission to combined local women's groups in the Warkworth and Wellsford area at the Warkworth Methodist Church. Pray for a warm and generous response from individuals attending this presentation resulting in long term commitments to become partners with the Leprosy Mission.
Friday 16 September
Praise God for our Ethnic Communities Volunteers Baibing and Lucy. Baibing is today presenting to the Chinese community at (AUT) Auckland University of Technology aiming to raise awareness of Leprosy Mission projects and opportunities for involvement as a volunteer in New Zealand. Lucy is committed to reaching the Indian/Asian communities through an Indian/Asian Radio station. Pray God will bless Baibing and Lucy's outreaches and many people will be inspired to become involved with the work of the Leprosy Mission either as a volunteer or financial supporter.
Saturday 17 / Sunday 18 September
Praise for the Running 4 Rights team who are participating on the 17th in the Arthur Lydiard Half Marathon event set in the Waitakere Ranges in West Auckland. Runners in this event have raised funds for leprosy work. May this event be a great opportunity to promote leprosy awareness among the general public.
Monday 19 September
Today is the closing date for applications for 2012 Youth Advocate Scholarships. Pray that the Lord will even at this early stage be preparing the chosen applicants for their role as advocates, in their own communities, for the work of the Leprosy Mission.
Tuesday 20 September
Today is the second day in a week long Training Session at the ALERT Health Course Centre located near Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This course is for medical professionals on the diagnosis and management of leprosy and common tropical dermatologic diseases. Pray this will be a well attended and informative training workshop.
Wednesday 21 September
International Day of Peace. Pray that leprosy-affected individuals and their families, who are afraid and alone because of leprosy, will experience God's peace, which surpasses all understanding. 'He will keep in perfect peace all those who trust in Him, whose thoughts turn often to the Lord.' Isaiah 26v3
Thursday 22 September
Pray that Bougainville Healthy Communities Project staff will be guided to suitable Chiefs and Village Health Volunteers when selecting persons to train in the Wakunai and Tinputz areas. Pray the chosen volunteers will catch the vision of 'healthy communities' and be diligent, enthusiastic and able to continue even if difficulties or problems arise.
Friday 23 September
Today September InTouch which will incorporate our Annual Review for 2010/2011 is due to be posted to supporters. Pray that the magazine's message will challenge and inspire readers to become more involved in the work of the Leprosy Mission, by being the motivator in their church, work or social group and by enlightening people that leprosy does still exist.
Saturday 24 / Sunday 25 September
Muzaffarpur Community Hospital, Bihar, India, is a major referral centre for reconstructive surgery. Pray that many leprosy-affected individuals will benefit from reconstructive surgery and will experience improvements to their life and self-esteem. Give thanks for the hospital superintendent Dr Alomani Kerketta.
Monday 26 September
Many TLM hospitals have counsellors who help leprosy-affected people to cope with the discrimination and psychological difficulties that they face. Pray for the counsellors in this ministry. May the Lord fill their hearts with compassion and give them wisdom and insight. 'Speak up for those who can't speak for themselves. Speak up for the rights of all those who are poor. Speak up and judge fairly. Speak up for the rights of those who are poor and needy.' Proverbs 31 v 8 & 9
Tuesday 27 September
Pray that community development training being organised by HANDA and Oxfam (Hong Kong) to village management groups in three villages in Yunnan, China, will give positive direction to the villagers. Pray this training will help restore self-worth to villagers.
Wednesday 28 September
Pray for the team at the Chittagong Sustainable Development Project, Bangladesh, as they take on the challenges of enabling people to achieve economic independence and be reintegrated back into their community. Remember all field staff who must travel extensively and in particular Rajesh, Project Manager.
Thursday 29 September
Pray for hearts to be opened to continuing support for leprosy-affected families through a bequest to Leprosy Mission New Zealand. Praise God for the bequests received this year providing continuity of projects under threat from the reduction in government funding.
Friday 30 September
TLM India has six Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) at Bankura, Champa, Faizabad, Nashik, Vizianagaram and Vadathorasalur providing professional skills for students from leprosy-affected backgrounds. Pray that students from all centres will be successful in securing jobs within a short period of time after graduating.
