Prayer & Praise November 2011

'Such confidence we have through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.'   II Corinthians 3 v 4 & 5

 

 

Tuesday 1 November

A TLM Country Leader is being sought for Papua New Guinea. Pray for wisdom and discernment for Brent Morgan (LMNZ Executive Director) and the other interviewers as they work through the process of selection for this position. Remember also Riven Johnston (previous country leader) as he focuses his skills towards other areas of work in Papua New Guinea.     

 

Wednesday 2 November

Praise God for all our generous supporters and new supporters who responded to our request to become Leprosy Mission Families 4 Families monthly supporters, allowing us to reduce our administration costs. Families 4 Families support our projects in China, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, India and Nepal.

 

Thursday 3 November

Ask for God's direction for Leprosy Mission NZ's Marketing and Management Team as they plan for centenary activities and communications for 2012. Pray that God's blessing will be on all initiatives and events and that new partners will become involved in the work of the Leprosy Mission.

 

Friday 4 November

Praise God that through the generosity of supporters Leprosy Mission NZ is able to fund a project which will include the building of a grain mill in a community near Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Pray for ENAPAL leaders and the team as they get the grain mill up and running. Pray that the planning and implementation to build, equip and operate a mill will run smoothly.

 

Saturday 5 / Sunday 6 November

To obtain much needed funds for Chittagong Hill Tracts project, John Samaddar, Program Director will be submitting a detailed report to TLM Scotland and the Scottish Government for their approval. Pray that this report will be favourably received and TLM Scotland will get a good response from their donors.

 

Monday 7 November

Pray for guidance for the selection team as they assess all candidates for this year's Youth Advocate Scholarship. The selected participants will introduce a new generation to the daily realities for thousands of leprosy-affected individuals and families around the world by becoming active in their own communities; building networks of youth supporters and campaigning on issues affecting people living with leprosy.

 

Tuesday 8 November

Pray for the various publicity campaigns and public events being held by HANDA in China to raise awareness and to educate the Chinese public about the causes and consequences of leprosy. Uphold Dr Michael Chen as he oversees HANDA's work in four provinces, with 40 full-time staff and thousands of volunteers.

 

Wednesday 9 November

Pray for grace and confidence for the over 900 village health volunteers in the Bougainville Healthy Communities Project as they voluntarily raise awareness  about  key  diseases  like leprosy. They also identify villagers who are ill and refer them to health facilities for diagnosis and treatment. Pray also for the 10 District Health Facilitators who travel to remote areas to monitor and support the volunteers.

 

Thursday 10 November

Remember today the Aka Pygmies people, a nomadic tribe in Central Africa (population of 4.3 million) who critically require food and leprosy medication. Many people in Lobaye, which is 160kms west of the capital Bangui, are leprosy-affected. Pray that these tribal peoples will receive the help they need for leprosy as well as for malaria, HIV and tuberculosis and that discrimination against ex-leprosy individuals will be addressed and overcome.

 

Friday 11 November

Andrew Harding (LMNZ's Programme Manager) will again be meeting with the Papua New Guinea Government's Leprosy Programme staff from the Department of Health and other partners in leprosy (World Health Organisation and TLM Australia) to discuss the new PNG Leprosy Strategy. Pray that the development of a common plan to help PNG's Department of Health implement leprosy control will be a success particularly in the four provinces where leprosy remains a significant problem.

 

Saturday 12 / Sunday 13 November

Praise God for the work of the Vocational Training Centre in Faizabad, India, which enables young adults from a leprosy background to learn a trade and skills for life. Pray that after their six months course the graduates will receive gainful employment. Remember Principal Mr A R Singh and all staff as they provide students with skills for the future.

 

Monday 14 November

In Nepal Dr Julie Lincoln works closely with Asal Chhimeki Nepal (ACN) which is a church based organisation incorporating 30 churches in Pokhara. Together they are involved in the health and development of leprosy-affected individuals and families as well as seeing to  the  needs  of  people  with  HIV/Aids,  female  drug/alcohol rehabilitation, adult literacy and community development. Pray that Julie and the rest of the team will be uplifted spiritually as they carry out their work.

 

Tuesday 15 November

Josh and Amy Griffiths are now being schooled in Niamey, the capital of Niger which is 300 miles away from Danja. Pray for Mark and Faye as they adjust to this change in their family and for Josh and Amy as they settle in to this new way of life. Schooling in Niamey will allow them to graduate from high school in Niger and the family will not have to return to New Zealand for the children's final years of schooling.

 

Wednesday 16 November

Every year the last Sunday in January is celebrated as World Leprosy Day. This is a special day where individuals, groups and churches can reaffirm their concern for those affected by leprosy and recommit themselves to doing something to make a difference. As the Leprosy Mission NZ's marketing team plan for World Leprosy Day 2012 pray they will be guided in all their communications.

 

Thursday 17 November

Pray for productive meetings as TLM China conducts their Annual Country Review.  Brent Morgan (LMNZ's Executive Director) will be attending this review to gain better understanding of China's strategy and how best New Zealand can partner with them. Brent will also review some of HANDA's work and meet their team.

 

Friday 18 November

Praise God for our young team, Tracey Adamson and Heather Warne, in the Marketing/Supporter Services Department as they enthusiastically build better relationships with supporters New Zealand wide through Facebook and Twitter.

 

Saturday 19 / Sunday 20 November

Universal Children's Day on Sunday. Thousands of children are diagnosed with leprosy each year. Pray that the disease will be diagnosed early so that treatment can be given quickly and any long lasting physical or emotional damage can be  prevented. Pray that our Really Good Gifts which are designed especially for children will be well received by supporters i.e. crutches for a child, a back to school kit, education for a girl and a goat for a young person.  

 

Monday 21 November

Remember today Rebecca Katticaren, TLM India Regional Support Manager, as she oversees Leprosy Mission NZ's Community Development Project in Uttar Pradesh, India. This project assists marginalised women find a better quality of life. Pray for the breakdown of cultural and caste barriers so that women find opportunities to improve their income.

 

Tuesday 22 November

Giving leprosy-affected people the opportunity to establish and run their own businesses in Nepal has transformed the lives of many. Pray that our micro finance and management training activities in self-help groups will continue to give members the skills and confidence they need to become socially and economically independent.

 

Wednesday 23 November

Praise God for our Ethnic Communities Volunteers Baibing, Lucy, Samson and Lillian, under the leadership of Mike Sheppard our volunteer Ethnic Communities Ambassador, who are reaching out in their communities with information on leprosy. These volunteers have translated communications into the Chinese language, appeared on local radio and produced a Chinese leprosy mission moneybox.

 

Thursday 24 November

Dr David Friend, supported by SIM and Leprosy Mission NZ works tirelessly at the Mukinge Hospital in NW Zambia as well as taking care of the physical and medical needs for leprosy-affected individuals and families in the nearby Kikonkomene Village. Pray for wisdom for David as he deals with issues relating to the upkeep and provisions needed for the village.  Pray also for dedicated and committed medical practitioners to come and work in this location.

 

Friday 25 November

Tomorrow being New Zealand's Election Day, pray for the wisdom of the New Zealand voter as we seek to decide who should lead our country. "First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way." I Timothy 2 v 1-2

 

Saturday 26 / Sunday 27 November

Pray for an outstanding response to our Really Good Gifts 4 Families catalogue and for an abundance of volunteers to help Supporter Services staff at this busy time to efficiently respond to the gifts ordered.

 

Monday 28 November

Pray for a spirit of oneness between key people involved in the integration process of the Bougainville Healthy Communities Project and the Bougainville Autonomous Government; Alois Pukienei, Dr Punpara and Ruby Mirinka. Pray that the Lord will guide in all discussions and break down the differences between them, creating an understanding that will result in an agreeable working relationship for the betterment of leprosy-affected individuals in Bougainville.

 

Tuesday 29 November

In Niger there is one doctor for every 30,000 people. Praise God in the New Year a G.P. from Ireland and her husband are planning to join Dr Mark Griffiths at the Danja Community Hospital for a year. Pray that all preparations for this couple will go smoothly. Pray also for Mark and Faye with their heavy work load; that they will have patient endurance.

 

Wednesday 30 November

Remember today Harsha, Gudasalamani, Programmes Manager, in the Vizianagaram and Vishakhapatnam Districts, Andhra Pradesh, India, as together with his team they encourage communities to achieve self-sustainment and self-reliance. Pray that God will strengthen these communities so that they will be empowered to address their own issues.
