Prayer & Praise May 2011
'The LORD will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring.' Isaiah 58v11 (NLT)
Sunday 1 May
Andrew Harding (LMNZ Programmes Manager) is now in Vizianagaram and
Vishakhapatnam Districts, Andhra Pradesh, India, reviewing the
project 'Empowering Communites to Address their Own Issues'. Pray
for God's strength for the communities benefiting from this
project, that they will achieve self-sustainment and self-reliance.
Pray also for Harsha, the new Programmes Manager for this project
as she coordinates the team.
Monday 2 May
In the Sichuan province, China, HANDA is in the process of
negotiating a partnership with local Lions Clubs to perform eye
care for at least 100 people. This endeavour is scheduled for this
month. Pray that HANDA staff will be successful in this regard and
that the leprosy-affected people receiving the eye care will
benefit greatly from it.
Tuesday 3 May
Praise God for the various church-run opportunity shops throughout
New Zealand who include the Leprosy Mission in their supported
missions from their profit. 'Who is wise and understanding among
you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the
humility that comes from wisdom.' James 3 v 13
Wednesday 4 May
Praise for Khasi Aryal, a leprosy-affected man who is now assisting
people affected by leprosy to transition from hospital care to
self-care through Rosa House at Anandaban Hospital, Nepal. Rosa
House is a Nepali-designed house providing practical skills for day
to day living with leprosy related disabilities.
Thursday 5 May
Recently TLM Scotland staff visited the Chittagong Hill Tracts area
and TLM Netherlands staff visited Chittagong to assess activities
in the projects and the impact it is having on leprosy-affected
people and families. Pray that they will be able to efficiently and
effectively share their experiences and knowledge with people in
Scotland and the Netherlands to raise prayer support and funds for
Bangladesh.
Friday 6 May
Remember today Menberu Adane (ENAPAL Managing Director), Ethiopia,
and the team as they work on their strategic management plan for
2012 to 2016. Pray that they will be able to procure the funding
needed to continue with their work.
Saturday 7 / Sunday 8 May
Remember today in prayer our Youth Advocates (Abigail, Eve, Stacey,
Yeri and Vicky) as they balance their university studies, practical
placements, work and church commitments with their Leprosy Mission
New Zealand volunteer work.
Monday 9 May
TLM Mozambique requests prayer that they will be
successful in acquiring
a suitably trained and
experienced Christian project manager for their ALEMO project work.
Pray also for TLM Country Leader Dr Arie de Kruijff.
Tuesday 10 May
Rivers and streams in the Siwai District, Bougainville, are quite
dry forcing people to travel long distances to obtain water.
A ready supply of water is vital for health and hygiene reasons and
is imperative to maintain their gardens which supply their staple
foods. Pray for sufficient rainfall to ease the situation.
Wednesday 11 May
On the second month anniversary of the tragic earthquake and
Tsunami that devastated Japan continue to pray for its people; for
strength for the recovery teams and that the thousands in need of
permanent shelter, food and water will receive it. Pray that their
spirits will be revived and that out of chaos, hope will be
born.
Thursday 12 May
Pray for TLM India staff Dr Mary Verghese (Programmes Deputy
Director) and Dr P.L.N. Raju (Deputy Director - Organisational
Effectiveness) who have both recently been newly appointed to the
Head Office. Pray that their expertise will benefit and strengthen
the effectiveness of TLM India's work and that they will know God's
guidance in all their plans.
Friday 13 May
Pray for the LMNZ Board meeting this evening and tomorrow.
Pray for wisdom and guidance as they discuss plans and budgets for
the following financial year and for the oversight and governance
of the Mission.
Saturday 14 / Sunday 15 May
15th - International Day of Families. Praise God for nearly 100
years New Zealanders and their families have been generously
supporting our vital work. Remember today TLM self-help groups
worldwide. Self-help groups operate like a family, giving
leprosy-affected people the love and support they need to get back
on their feet.
Monday 16 May
Pray for Dr Mark & Jo Macdonald, in the Philippines. For wisdom
for the next step in the children's schooling (Isabella, Cameron
and Harrison) and that Mark will be successful in obtaining his
Philippine Medical Registration which is still being assessed by
authorities.
Tuesday 17 May
Praise for Volunteer Auckland, an organisation that matches
available volunteers with organisations that require volunteers.
During especially busy times of the year Leprosy Mission New
Zealand benefits from short-term volunteers, obtained through
Volunteer Auckland. These volunteers assist with a variety of
administration tasks .
Wednesday 18 May
Pray for Dr James Das, TLM Country Leader for Bangladesh, and his
team. Pray for wisdom for Dr Das as he leads TLM's work in this
country and as he works through difficult staffing situations that
have arisen through shortage in funds.
Thursday 19 May
With TLM PNG's new strategy for the next five years now finalised,
Andrew Harding (TLMNZ Programme Manager) and a WHO (World Health
Organisation) Representative will be liaising with the Papua New
Guinea Government Planning Office to have a country leprosy control
strategy put into practice. Pray for good working relationships
with government officials and for a workable plan to be
established. Remember also Riven Johnston, TLM's Country
Leader.
Friday 20 May
Pray for continued health and protection for Dr David Friend, SIM
(Serving In Mission) Medical Missionary in Mukinge, N.W. Zambia.
Pray also for the people living at the
Kikonkomene Leprosy Village,
who receive treatment for their medical and physical
needs from David. Additional Doctors are needed at the Mukinge
Hospital, pray that these vacancies will be filled.
Saturday 21 / Sunday 22 May
On the anniversary of the third month since the Christchurch
earthquake remember those who sorrow and those who have been
displaced. Pray that they will receive strength to be able to
endure and persevere despite problems and difficulties.
Monday 23 May
Pray for safety in travel for Dr Susan Maiava (LMNZ Board Member
and TLMI Board Member) as she leaves New Zealand for meetings in
Chiang Mai, Thailand. Pray also for safety in travel for all
delegates attending the meetings and for their health while in
Chiang Mai.
Tuesday 24 May
Pray for Brent Morgan (LMNZ's Executive Director) as he visits
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as part of a team to select the new Country
Leader for TLM Ethiopia. Pray that God would bring the right
person forth.
Wednesday 25 May
Praise God for all our Moneybox Collectors and Moneybox Holders and
for the 127 supporters who over the last six months have opted in
to join our Moneybox Programme. Donations received through our
Moneybox Programme fund the work in the Chittagong District, where
TLM Bangladesh has been working for more than fifteen years.
Thursday 26 May
A Doctor and Hospital Director are still required for the Danja
Community Hospital, Niger; pray that these positions will soon be
filled. Pray also for Dr Mark Griffiths for continued wisdom in
time management to do what the Lord wants, rather than what
everyone else wants.
Friday 27 May
Pray today for the staff from the Kopila, CAP and WATCH projects in
Nepal; Ms Bina Sewal, Madan Ghimire and Sarmila Shrestha, as they
face the challenges of reduced funding.
Saturday 28 / Sunday 29 May
The International Assembly for 2011 will meet in Chiang Mai,
Thailand, from the 29th May until 1st June. Pray for Godly wisdom
in all decision making and for openness to the Lord's leading in
all matters pertaining to the work of the Leprosy Mission. Give
thanks for new members attending. Pray that Brent Morgan's
participation in this Assembly will benefit both the International
and New Zealand organisation.
Monday 30 May
Praise for volunteers who travel to our projects to donate their
time and expertise and thereby increase the impact of our work with
leprosy-affected people. Today remember Liz Collins, a pharmacist
from England who is currently volunteering her time and expertise
to enhance the services of the pharmacy at Anandaban Hospital,
Nepal.
Tuesday 31 May
Pray for the ongoing work of the Chittagong Integrated Leprosy
Control & Stigma Reduction Project in Bangladesh which is now
being supported by TLM Netherlands. Pray that staff will receive
adequate training to obtain skills to be able to manage the extra
activities that have been added to the project i.e. HIV/AIDS,
nutrition and maternal child health education. Pray for staff and
leprosy-affected people and families involved in this project.
