Prayer & Praise January 2012

'All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I had been eager to do all along.'  Galatians 2v10

Sunday 1 January

At the start of the New Year let us dedicate ourselves afresh to His service, to becoming more like Jesus and cultivating the Father's heart, that we may truly be the hands and feet of Jesus to others.

Monday 2 January

HANDA distributes a newsletter which leprosy-affected individuals living in various villages and in different provinces are able to contribute articles too. Pray that the communication workshop being organised in Guangzhou for these correspondents, to allow them to communicate face to face and to share their experiences, will be a beneficial time for all. Pray that the logistics of bringing all the correspondents together to Guangzhou from isolated villages will be carried out without a hitch.

Tuesday 3 January

Give thanks for Natalie Smith, TLM Country Leader for Timor L'este. Pray for stability among the leadership team and commitment to TLM's vision to eradicate the causes and consequences of leprosy. Pray also for the developing relationship between TLM and the church in Timor, that the church community will become more aware and interested in the work of The Leprosy Mission.

Wednesday 4 January

Praise God that after nine years of petitioning the government in Bangladesh the 'Lepers (Repeal) Act' has been passed. The 1898 act supported forcible confinement of leprosy-affected individuals into government-administered asylums. Bangladesh ranks fourth in the world in leprosy after India, Brazil and Indonesia.

Thursday 5 January

Pray for Mrs Wubitu Abere, newly appointed TLM Country Leader in Ethiopia as she works with local government officials and other agencies. Until last year all TLM's work in Ethiopia was done solely through partners ENAPAL. Pray that Wubitu will be successful in registering TLM as an NGO with Ethiopia's Charities and Societies Authority.

Pray that HANDA's comprehensive Village Project will bring spiritual, physical and social benefits for leprosy-affected people in 37 villages in Guangdong, China. As the villagers learn self-care and are motivated to form self-help groups pray this will help prevent worsening of their disabilities.
