Life Skills Training: Social Empowerment
As well as the vocational training that can lead to a
lifelong career, the Centres help build the confidence
of the students.
Most students, like Laxmi, have had to cope with the
physical effects of leprosy – often from quite a young
age.
They have also had to cope with being hidden
away, or even banished from their families. Their
previously supportive circle of friends in their community
would have turned against them. This is traumatic for
anyone, let alone a child or young person with limited
experience of the world around them.
Supporting the young people to believe
in themselves in the face of such
widespead social exclusion is
absolutely essential for their future.
