Leprosy Awareness Week 31st January to 6th February 2010

Fighting for a Just Cause

The last Sunday of January, every year, is World Leprosy Day.  More than 100 countries recognise and celebrate this day, and have done so for over 55 years.

In New Zealand we extend the day to a full week (31st January to 6th February), so more attention can be paid to this event during a busy time in the New Zealand calendar.

Every year The Leprosy Mission New Zealand runs a special appeal during Leprosy Awareness Week that not only focuses on the global goal of eradicating the causes and consequence of leprosy, but also celebrates the successes and achievements of people affected by leprosy around the world.  This is a special time of solidarity, here in New Zealand and around the world.

We invite individuals, churches and groups to participate in raising awareness of leprosy stigma and discrimination, either during this week or at any other time that suits. e.g. Lent and Easter.

Tools that can be used during Leprosy Awareness Week or throughout the year can be downloaded from this page.
