SEED - Social Empowerment Economic Development

Become a SEED Partner

 SEED - Chittagong

The Leprosy Mission New Zealand is committed to working with and helping people affected by the causes and consequences of leprosy.  The SEED (Social Empowerment Economic Development) projects are a means of encouraging continued support within New Zealand, by creating a 'partnership' between you and specific communities in need.  Through the SEED projects we are able to help individuals and communities florish, escape the cycle of poverty, and remove misunderstanding which leads to stigma.

All SEED projects work in a participatory manner, which means that these who are affected by leprosy are involved in the decision making process, this ensures that the projects that SEED partners support are projects that best help each individual community, whether that is through improved sanitation, the chance for education for children or care for leprosy disabled or other disabled individuals.

The cycle of poverty and stigma cannot be changed overnight, which is why long term regular giving is important to successfully creating a brighter future for those in need. The Leprosy Mission New Zealand has SEED Partnership programmes in the Terai district of Nepal, Chittagong Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Faizabad and Muzarrarpur India and China.

Why become a SEED Partner?

When you commit to becoming a SEED Partner you strengthen The Leprosy Mission New Zealand's work and together, we work with those affected by leprosy, both learning and growing from each other.  Ultimately not only will leprosy be eradicated but those affected will become stronger members of the community.

As a SEED Partner, you will receive an annual update about the progress and development of your chosen community (you can also decide that your donations go across the board, going where needed most in which case you will receive a general update).

"Stigma is addressed by looking beyond those affected by leprosy to the communities in which they belong.  SEED projects all community members as full partners, so people affected by leprosy are no longer rejected but seen as people who contribute positively to the community.  This is eradicating the causes and consequences of leprosy"

David Hall (The Leprosy Mission New Zealand Executive Director 1993 - 2009)

Reliable and ongoing support helps dramatically reduce our administration costs, not only does this allow for more of your donation to go to those in need, but also allows for the long-term  planning and continued assistance for communities that need our help.  Sustainability is essential to our work. Because we are a development organisation, our aim is the total eradication of leprosy and the end to the poverty, stigma and injustice that so often go hand and hand with the disease.

How much do I pay?

You can give however much you can afford each month. Why not start with a monthly gift of $30.00?   Click here to download a pdf form and become a SEED Partner now.

By donating a little from your income every month so much can be achieved!  It may seem insignificant, but it is the regularity of this type of giving that allows for the security and future planning which enables the SEED programmes to achieve so much.

How will I be kept uptodate on the SEED projects?

Every year we send an update to you directly, with details about the progress of the project, activites that have been run through the year, success stories, and when possible feedback from those who are directly benefitting from your support.  The Leprosy Mission New Zealand website and inTOUCH magazine will regularily feature stories from these projects.
