What We Do

Advocacy

Often those affected by leprosy are seen in society as the lowest of the low, which means they may lack the confidence, energy and resources to speak out against injustice. People affected by leprosy need support to help ensure that their voices are heard.

People who are affected by leprosy often have to face the difficulties of social exclusion and discrimination at the same time as they battle with daily poverty, which is a breach of their basic human rights.

"Why should there be a stigma attached to leprosy any more than any other disease?"

 Mahatma Gandhi once asked.

All Leprosy Mission projects have strong advocacy components. By helping those we work with learn about their rights and support them as they gain confidence to speak out against the discrimination that they often face, caused by misunderstanding and ignorance.
