About Us

We are a Christian development organisation, and one of the oldest charities in New Zealand.

Both perants were diagnosed with leprosy but the stigma and discrimination effected the whole family. Community education and awareness helped this familyFor nearly 100 years we have been supporting thousands of leprosy-affected individuals and their families in 28 countries around the world.

Leprosy has been devastating families since biblical times. Yet these days, it can be treated and cured. But it is important to remember that leprosy is as much a social disease as it is a medical one, and it doesn't just affect individuals - it affects entire families and communities.

Many of our projects include detecting, diagnosing and treating leprosy (because there is a cure!). We also put lots of energy in to reducing the stigma and discrimination that accompany the disease, empowering leprosy-affected individuals and families to stand up for their rights, and fighting poverty - because leprosy is found, and thrives, in poor communities.

Of course we haven't been doing this all by ourselves!

For close to a century we have had the generous support of countless New Zealanders and their families. And we are part of the Leprosy Mission International, a leading Christian organisation that has a presence in over 50 countries around the world.

We see ourselves as one big global family that is made up of thousands of diverse members including staff, supporters, partner organisations, and individuals and families affected by leprosy. In fact, we believe that families are at the heart of our mission. Find out why.....

The final push

We truly believe that we can eradicate the causes and consequences of leprosy within our lifetime. We have already made extraordinary progress, and we need to keep up the momentum.
